The Egyptian Geological Society honored a number of the Egyptian pioneers and influential scholars for their role in promoting geosciences, scientific publishing and contributions in worldwide.

Zakaria Hamimi is a structural geologist who spent the majority of his academic career at Benha University, Egypt, along with some years at Sana’a University, Yemen, and King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia. He has worked in many field-related sub-disciplines of Earth Sciences, including geologic mapping, microstructural analysis, quantitative strain analysis, paleostress reconstruction, active tectonics, tectonic geomorphology, crustal deformation, engineering geology, shear zone-related mineralizations and image processing. He used all these fields to construct detailed geologic and structural maps for key areas in the Arabian-Nubian Shield, the northern extension of the East African Orogen, and to decipher the tectonic evolution and deformation history of the Neoproterozoic shield rocks. Zakaria Hamimi is the president, and one of the founding team, of the Arabian Geosciences Union since its establishment in 2012.  He has received the medal of the Egyptian Geological Society of Egypt in 2015.
